Les Miserables

This is a film i really wanted to love, but just could not connect with emotionally...well, not enough. That's not to say there is not enough in the film, it's the format it was presented in. Anne Hathaway really does deserve the Best Actress Oscar for her performance, and the rest of the cast are brilliant. However, i struggled to absorb the emotion being conveyed through song only (i'm a sucker for ballads, so go figure aye). I found myself wanting some dialogue for me to sink my ears into instead.
That said, the film is excellently produced, from production design to the fact the actors sing everything 'live'. I don't mind musicals, and have enjoyed stage productions in the past (although i have not seen 'Les Mis' on stage), but i struggled to really really enjoy this movie. If you cannot stand musicals, then stay away. If you feel up to the task, and really want to see Actors giving their all through song, you'll be in for a treat. I love long films, but 160min of song was starting to stretch it for me.
